THE TRUTH BEHIND MUSHROOMS
Well, we all know their taste, but do you know how beneficial they are?
Medicinal mushrooms got their name because they were used for the prevention and treatment of diseases.
All mushrooms contain beta glucans, which have been found to help fight inflammation and aid the immune system. But the list of health benefits that medicinal mushrooms provide is lengthy. They are the ultimate balancer – they help balance the immune system, digestive issues, skin issues, sleep disorders, mood issues, hormones… the list goes on. I can't blame why centuries back they considered being the plant of immortality.
You might be surprised to learn that humans have had a close relationship with medicinal mushrooms from the very beginning!
You can see from Egyptian hieroglyphics that their society saw mushrooms as the plant of immortality. Mushrooms were typically only eaten by pharaohs and other gods, and were given the name "sons of the gods" and depicted in artwork as being sent to earth on lightning bolts.
Each variety of mushrooms has different properties.
Basically, if you’re dealing with an “ailment” like low energy, stress, inflammation, adrenal fatigue, brain fog etc., there is likely a medicinal mushroom that addresses those symptoms.
Some of the benefits you could expect from mushroom supplements include increased energy, reduced stress, improved muscle recovery, immune support, heart health, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and concentration or cognition.
But the trouble is, there are so many different kinds of medicinal mushrooms that most of us don’t know where to start.
Sadly, a lot of companies have caught onto the medicinal mushroom trends and have flooded the market with a ton of low-quality products.
The mycelium is like the roots of the mushroom but it is typically implanted on sterilized rice or grain in labs, usually grown in cheap plastic bags, which contains trace amounts of the beneficial compounds like beta-glucans and that’s not what we have paid for! Right?
Shockingly, many supplement companies grind this grain spawn into a powder and sell it as a medicinal mushroom supplement. So before you buy, check the labels.
Even if the front label says “mushrooms,” you need to look at the Supplement Facts panel.
2000 years ago, mushroom powders were not available. Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners used to boil mushrooms and herbs for long periods of time to extract the medicinal compounds. Especially for mushrooms, hot water extract is the best way to make them more bioavailable and powerful. This is because their most important active ingredients – beta-glucans – are water-soluble.
The advantages of organic supplements organic supplements are free of pesticides, insecticides and other toxic ingredients unlike synthetic ones (which can contain chemical compounds that don't occur in nature). They're better for the body—and the environment.
